With so much information given after a heart attack from medication to diet, exercise to lifestyle, it can all become a whirl of words and an avalanche of advice, so it’s no wonder many want to shut it all out for peace and quiet.

With emotions all over the place, possible sleep disturbances, and restrictions on the body, finding calm in the chaos can be difficult but that’s where routine benefits recovery.

Daily routines can help set out our daily actions that keep us on track on our road to recovery at a time when we may face daily stress and anxiety.

When we feel vulnerable and dealing with a range of negative emotions it can seem impossible to have a positive attitude to recovery, but it is possible.

Deciding to take a shower or to get dressed is a positive step. Starting with small actions and gradually building them up over time can help everyday tasks seem less intimidating.

A positive attitude does not mean we smile and pretend everything is okay: a positive attitude is a pledge to self that every day our actions will be in our best interest physically, mentally, and emotionally no matter how small the action.

This pledge to self is our self-care which includes listening to our bodies ensuring the best possible care. It’s important to get to know how our bodies feel and react so we know when we need medical help or self-help.

Times of stress and anxiety can raise our heart rate, so relaxation exercises are beneficial for us as they keep stress levels down.  There are many mindfulness practises that not only reduce stress levels but improve mood too (e.g., meditation). These practises are also beneficial for those who have physical restrictions.

We should ensure any practises we partake in is in accordance with our fitness levels and abilities. If unsure we should consult a healthcare professional.

Like how we take steps to improve our lifestyle and fitness, overall recovery takes steps. Steps that can seem difficult or daunting at times but that is where Vitalis helps attain a positive attitude towards recovery using proven coaching methods.

Vitalis for heart and mind.
